When a DTC port is assigned a profile that has the field "Enable Switching" set to Y then the user will enter the DTC user interface when [RETURN] is first pressed. While at the DTC user interface, the user can enter several commands. The DTC user interface screen is used to configure parameters that determine how this user interface behaves. See Appendix C “DTC User Interface”

Figure 8-3 “DTC User Interface Screen” displays the DTC User Interface screen. This screen is reached by pressing [F3], the [DTC U I] function key at the DTC Configuration screen. See the beginning of this chapter to find how to access the [DTC U I] function key.

Fields

DTC name

A display-only field. The configuration applies to the DTC whose name is shown.

DTC user interface timeout

Specifies the inactivity time before the terminal connection to the DTC user interface is automatically disconnected. This timeout applies only to those ports that have the "DTC user interface timeout?" field enabled on the Terminal Switching Configuration screen (Figure 7-3 “Terminal Switching Configuration Screen”). The timer is inactive during a terminal connection to a system via the DTC and reactivates after you log off and return to the DTC user interface. Valid values range from 5 to 300 seconds. The default is 300 seconds.

User prompt

Sets the prompt displayed at the DTC user interface. Only terminal ports with switching capability will see this prompt. Terminal ports without switching capability are connected directly to the host system and bypass the DTC user interface. The prompt is one line long, a maximum of 16 characters, and is case-sensitive. The default is DTC>.

Welcome message

Optional field which specifies the message displayed when the DTC user interface is first opened or when a STATUS command is issued at the DTC user interface. Text entered can be a maximum of 400 characters and is case-sensitive. Control characters can be entered as ^char. A line break in the message can be added by embedding the control character sequence "^j^m" in the text.
