Figure 7-3 “Terminal Switching Configuration Screen” displays the Terminal Switching Configuration screen. You can reach this screen by pressing [F5], the [Go To Switch] function key, at the Terminal Profile screen. The Terminal Switching Configuration screen allows you to configure host-based terminal switching parameters.

Path name: DTS.PROFILE.profname.SWITCH

Review the profile settings on the screen. Use the [Tab] key to move from field to field. Make changes as needed by typing over the current values. When you have made the desired changes, press the [Save Data] key. Refer to the "Fields" subsection for detailed information about each field on the screen.

Press the [Prior Screen] key to return to the Terminal Profile screen.

Fields

Terminal name

Optional field which specifies the terminal port name. You may enter up to 16 characters or an IP address. For routable back-to-back environments, this field must contain a valid IP address for the terminal port in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, where xxx is a number from 0-255.

Data transfer

Specifies the mode of data transfer. For back-to-back connections, the field can be either ASCII or binary. If the profile will not be configured for back-to-back connections, enter 1 for ASCII. The default is ASCII.

Escape from data transfer character

Optional field which specifies the character which will return the terminal user to the DTC user interface. Field applies only if switching is enabled. Field may be either an ASCII character or a control character entered as ^char where char is any letter, [, \, ^, _, or ]. If field is left blank, you will not return to the DTC user interface before logging off the session.

Maximum number of sessions

The number of concurrent sessions allowed from a terminal. The maximum number of sessions allowed is 5 and the default is 1. If the connection is established to a HP 3000 that is configured as host-based then only one connection to that host is allowed. If the connection is established to a PC-based system and the DTC port configured as non-nailed, then you may establish up to the maximum number of sessions specified. Only one connection is active at any given time. All other sessions are in a suspended state. See Appendix C “DTC User Interface” for a description of the DTC user interface commands.

Enable port?

Specifies whether communication can be established to the port. Enter an N to disable the port. The default is Y. If disabled, no connections can be established to the port.

DTC user interface timeout?

Specifies whether the DTC user interface timeout is active. If enabled, terminal connection to the DTC user interface is automatically disconnected after the timeout period defined on DTC User Interface screen (Figure 8-3 “DTC User Interface Screen”). Field is valid only if switching is enabled in the "Enable switching?" field. Enter a Y to enable the DTC user interface timeout, the default is N.

Enable switching?

Specifies the switching capability of the port. Enter a Y to enable switching. The default is N. If switching is enabled, you are allowed to access more than one system. You will see a DTC prompt that is specified on the DTC User Interface screen Figure 8-3 “DTC User Interface Screen” in Chapter 8 “Additional DTC Configuration” Connection to other systems on the LAN can be made by entering connect system name at the DTC prompt (refer to Chapter 8 “Additional DTC Configuration” for more information on the DTC user interface). If switching is disabled, the terminal will be automatically connected to the host defined in the "Default destination" field.

Enable keep alive?

Specifies whether "keep alive" mechanism is to be activated. When there is no data transfer between the and the DTC and the system, then the "keep alive" mechanism is used to detect if the connection is still there. The default value is Y (enable). Enter an N to disable the field. Not applicable for DTC 48 without the memory extension. This feature is only applicable for ARPA (TCP/IP) connections.

Automatic connection?

Specifies whether a connection is automatically established to the system specified in the "Default destination" field. Enter a Y to enable automatic connection. The default is N. If enabled, the DTC senses the modem signal's rise and automatically connects the device to the value of "Default destination". "Allow :HELLO logon?" field on Terminal Profile screen must be enabled. Field is valid for modem ports only ("Modem behavior" field on Terminal Profile screen must be set to 1, 2, or 3).

Save port config in binary?

Specifies whether the port configuration parameters data length and parity settings will be maintained when binary mode is selected. If set to Y, then the port configuration remains unchanged when binary mode is selected. If set to N, then the data length is set to 8 and parity is set to none when binary mode is selected. The default is N. Supported on DTC 16iX/DTC 16MX and DTC 72MX only.

Default destination

Specifies the default system to which the terminal will connect. This destination will be used if the c[onnect] command is entered without a system name at the DTC prompt or if automatic connection is enabled. Field must be completed if switching is disabled or if automatic connection is enabled. Field can be a node name in the format name.domain.organization or an IP address in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Default is the entry in the field "Local HP 3000 node name" on the Main screen.

Initialization string

Optional field that specifies the string that will be sent to the attached device under one of the following circumstances:

  • After resetting a port.

  • After closing a session on the host and returning to the DTC user interface.

  • After entering the escape character during a system session and returning to the DTC user interface.

  • After establishing a connection to the DTC user interface for modem connections when all modem signals are up.

Field is case-sensitive and can be up to 16 characters, including special characters and escape-code sequences in the format ^char.
