Sending Comments

Sending comments allows the sending of a message to the HP Response
Center. This message transmitted along with HP Predictive Support events
helps the HP Response Center Engineer (RCE) with remote troubleshooting.
The message should be a short description of what is done to the system
or a device. This informs the RCE when in a series of Predictive events
a change or repair was made.

Sending a Comment to the HP Response Center

To send comments,

   1. From the Maintenance Menu: Type 1 or send.

psconfig asks if the comment refers to a device (D) or the system
       (S).

   2. Type d if this comment refers to a specific PDEV, or s if this
       comment refers to the system.

          a. If you select d, psconfig displays:

Type PDEV to select, press Return for list, or type // to cancel:

Type the PDEV number. If you would like a list of PDEVs,
press Return. After listing the PDEVs, psconfig again asks
for the PDEV number, and once entered, asks you to type
              your name.

          b. If you select s, psconfig asks you for your name.

   3. Type your name (up to 20 characters).

   4. Type your comment, using the instructions provided by psconfig.

   5. When you have finished your comment, psconfig asks you to type one
       of the following:

          a. s to save your comment to PSCEFILE.PRED.SYS. This file is
added to PSDCFILE.PRED.SYS (the Predictive Support event
file) the next time it is transmitted to the HP Response
              Center.

          b. r to change the comment. The entire message must be
              retyped.

          c. d to display the comment.

          d. // to cancel the comment.

NOTE You may also cancel the comment at any stage in the process by typing // in response to the prompt, except when entering the actual comment.
Resetting Event Data Resetting event history helps the RCE to remotely diagnose problems. Event history is the HP Predictive Support information containing accumulated counts of various error occurrences which may lead to the triggering of HP Predictive Support events. When a repair is made, reset these counts for that peripheral device. An event will be sent to the HP Response Center and logged into the HP Response Center Predictive Database (RCPDB). The RCE can then look at the history of a device and see exactly when the counts were reset. If the same events reoccur, the RCE will know that the device needs attention and that the event was not triggered by remnant count values. To reset event data, 1. From the Maintenance Menu: Type 2 or reset. psconfig displays the following prompt: Type PDEV to reset, press Return for list, or type // to cancel: 2. Type the PDEV number. If you would like a list of PDEVs, press Return. After listing the PDEVs, psconfig again asks for the PDEV number to reset, and once entered, asks you if you are sure you want to reset event data for the PDEV you specified. 3. Type y to reset or n to not reset the event data for that PDEV.
CAUTION Resetting event data erases all of the accumulated event history for that device. Event data for a PDEV should be reset when a device is replaced by a new device of the same model number.
