Points Every Option
The Points Every option box appears on the Draw Graphs dialog box.
The Points Every option determines the time period represented by one
data point on a graph.
Figure 10-51. Points Every Option
Points Every...provides you with three choices:
* 5 Minutes. (Available for Shift = Day only.)
This is the shortest summary interval used to report global or
application data. Each data point represents the summarized
measurement for the SCOPE(XL) collection interval occurring every
5 minutes. It provides the most detail and variation in the
graphs. Little smoothing of the data occurs since there is
minimal summarization.
You can choose 5 Minutes only if the logfile you have selected has
5-minute data. If you are accessing an extracted logfile that you
created with hourly summary data only, the 5 Minutes option is
dimmed.
* Hour. (Available for Shift = Day or Week only.)
When you choose Hour, each data point represents the summary
(average) of the 5-minute measurements made by the SCOPE(XL)
collector during the hour. A moderate amount of summarization and
smoothing of the data occurs.
* Day. (Available for Shift = Week, Month, or Year only.)
When you choose Day for a global or application graph type, each
data point represents the summary (average) of the 5-minute
measurements made by the SCOPE(XL) collector during the day.
Maximum summarization and considerable smoothing of the data
occur.
When you choose Day for a disc space graph, it represents a
snapshot of the system at a single point in time.
NOTE Points Every must be Day for disc space graphs to be listed in the
Available Graphs list box.
The Points Every choices available to you depend on how you set the
X-Axis option. In the following table, an X appears if the corresponding
combination is valid.

Choose a higher summary level to perceive overall changes. The smoothing
effect makes it easier to see them. However, the higher summary level
can mask detailed periods of unusual performance.
Choose a lower summary level to identify more specific variations in
measurements.
NOTE The smallest level of summarization when displaying any disc space
graphs must be Points Every Day, since that is the level of the
collected data.
