Connect Serial Command
The Connect Serial command appears under the File menu.
Figure 10-17. Connect Serial Command
The Connect Serial command establishes a serial link between HP
LaserRX/MPE and a specific HP 3000 containing the logfiles you want to
access and logs you in to the target HP 3000 host. A link may be
established to a target HP 3000 host through intermediate HP 3000s as
required.
When you select the File Connect Serial command, you get the following
dialog box.
Figure 10-18. Connect Serial Dialog Box
The Connect Serial dialog box contains whatever default connection
specifications you have provided through the Configure Serial Connect
command.
You can override the defaults before you process the Connect Serial
command.
* Port.
Specify through which port you are making a serial connection.
* Host Logon option.
* Enable (check) the Logon Host box to have HP LaserRX/MPE
log on to the host HP 3000. If this box is left blank, the
existing serial connection is used.
If you want to use the existing serial connection, make
sure that the Command File option is also left blank. (Any
command file listed will be executed regardless of whether
or not Logon Host is enabled.)
(Remember that only one application may "own" a serial port
at one time. If you establish a connection through a
terminal emulator, you must exit the application before you
attempt to use the connection with HP LaserRX/MPE.)
* Hello.
You can enter a logon string up to 72 characters long in
the Hello edit box. Passwords are masked with and
encrypted in the WIN.INI file.
* Command File.
Use the Command File option to specify a previously written basic
serial command file containing a set of commands to automatically
establish a connection with an HP 3000.
If you want to use the existing serial connection or if you have a
direct connection, make sure that this option is left blank. (Any
command file listed will be executed regardless of whether or not
Logon Host is enabled.)
Only one serial connection is supported during any one session of HP
LaserRX/MPE.
If the Host Logon box is enabled and a command file is specified, HP
LaserRX/MPE first executes the command file (to establish the HP 3000
connection) and then executes the logon string (to log on to the HP 3000
after the connection is made). If a command file is specified but does
not exist, HP LaserRX/MPE displays an error message indicating that it
couldn't find the command file.
