Exporting Logfile Data
When you open a logfile, you enable the Export Logfile command. You
don't have to have a window open to export data using this command.
The Export Logfile command is an extension of the Export Window
functionality in that it allows you to export the same type of data
(application and process detail). However, with the Export Logfile
command, you can export more data than can be shown in a window.
Export Logfile File Types
You can export performance measurement data to two types of files:
* A Lotus 1-2-3-compatible spreadsheet file.
* An ASCII file.
ASCII files do not have special control characters imbedded in
them.ASCII files are compatible with statistical analysis programs
such as SAS.
To Export Logfile Data
CAUTION Do not attempt to export data with the Export Logfile command
until you become more familiar with the time constraints
involved. Large amounts of data can take hours to format and
export. See "Tips" later in this chapter.
1. Open the File menu and select Export Logfile. The dialog box on
the next page appears.
Figure 7-2. Export Logfile Dialog Box
2. Designate the file to which the data will be exported by selecting
one from the Files box or by typing the file name in the Filename
box. If the file name is not found, HP LaserRX/MPE creates a new
file.
3. Specify the characteristics of the exported file. Use the File
Type box to indicate the type of file. Click the Headings check
box if you want row and column headings to appear in the
spreadsheet or data output file.
4. Specify the data options. Choose the dates and the shift of the
data to be exported, and whether weekend data should be ignored.
You can toggle between Application and Process data types to
determine which type of data is to be exported. If the
highlighted logfile does not contain application or process data,
the Data Type option will be blank.
If the highlighted logfile contains process data and you select
process for the Data Type, the Next button is enabled. The Next
button accesses the Export Logfile Filters dialog box. It allows
you to graph a specific application, do a Zoom Process, and then
export the process detail data.

5. Click OK on the Export Logfile dialog box. The dialog box will
disappear and the data will be exported.
