Exporting Window Data
Data that is displayed in an HP LaserRX/MPE graph or table can be
exported. This operation is referred to as exporting window data.
Export Window File Types
You can export performance measurement data to three types of files:
* A Lotus 1-2-3-compatible spreadsheet file.
HP LaserRX/MPE uses a cell width of 9 bytes or the width of the HP
LaserRX/MPE column, whichever is greater. (A cell is the basic
unit used to store data in a Lotus 1-2-3 format file.)
* An ASCII file.
ASCII files are compatible with statistical analysis programs such
as SAS. ASCII files do not have special control characters
imbedded in them.
* A TIFF file.
You can use TIFF graphics files in many word processing programs.
The amount of data that is transferred from a graphic is determined by
the width of the display window (X-Axis option) and the summary level of
the graph you select.
For example, if you export from a graph that has Day for the X-Axis, Hour
for Points Every, and All Day for Shift, there will be 24 rows of data in
the exported file.
If you select a tabular window, HP LaserRX/MPE copies all applications or
processes listed in the table.
To Export Window Data
With a graph or table displayed, do the following:
1. Open the File menu and select Export Window. The dialog box on
the following page appears.
Figure 7-1. Export Window Dialog Box
2. Select the type of file you are creating:
a. Spreadsheet is the standard Lotus 1-2-3 format.
HP LaserRX/MPE uses a .WKS extension as a default for a
spreadsheet file unless you provide one.
b. Data File is an ASCII file. HP LaserRX/MPE uses a .DAT
extension as a default for a data file unless you provide
one.
c. TIFF is a graphics file. HP LaserRX/MPE uses a .TIF
extension as a default for a graphics file unless you
provide one.
3. Designate the file to which the data will be exported by selecting
one from the Files box or by typing the file name in the Filename
box. If the file name is not found, HP LaserRX/MPE creates a new
file.
4. Click the Headings check box if you want row and column headings
to appear in the spreadsheet or data output file.
5. Click OK. The dialog box disappears and the arrow changes to a
cross pointer.
6. Export the graph or tabular window by positioning the cross
pointer on the graph and clicking the mouse button. The pointer
changes back to an arrow when the export is complete.
NOTE You can use any file extension for the spreadsheet, ASCII, or
graphics files, but only files with an extension of .WKS for
spreadsheet files, .DAT for ASCII files, and .TIF for graphics
files appear in the Files box.
You can simplify operations by using the .WKS extension for all
spreadsheet files, the .DAT extension for all ASCII files, and .TIF
for all graphics files used in conjunction with HP LaserRX/MPE, and
by using these extensions for those files only.
