Tips for Connecting and Disconnecting

   *   Using defaults.

       If you connect to the same HP 3000 most of the time, set up
       defaults for connection and disconnection.

       You can configure both a default LAN connection and a default
       serial connection even though you cannot use both at the same time
       automatically. Then you can switch from one default configuration
       to another simply by making a different selection on the Auto
       Connect Selection option of the Options dialog box.

   *   Having problems.

       Certain situations--such as attempting to log on to a system when
       a logon is already established and another process is
       running--cause the data communications software to perform
       multiple retries of the connect sequence. It may take a few
       minutes to connect in these situations.

       If, however, it takes more than 5 minutes to connect (you see the
       hourglass symbol on the screen for more than 5 minutes), it is not
       a condition that will time out.

       You must reboot your PC. Before trying to connect to the same HP
       3000 through HP LaserRX/MPE, check to see that you can log on
       outside of HP LaserRX/MPE.

       If you continue to have problems, there is an HP LaserRX/MPE data
       comm diagnostic utility available in the \SUPPORT\PINGRX
       subdirectory on the HP LaserRX/MPE CD.

   *   Using batch interface commands.

       You can use HP LaserRX/MPE batch interface commands and batch
       interface command files to connect to one or more remote systems.
       See Chapter 9 .

   *   Using macros.

       You can simplify the task of making multiple connections through
       HP LaserRX/MPE by using macro files.

       Macro files can be played from within HP LaserRX/MPE or from the
       MS-DOS command line.

       See Chapter 8  and Chapter 9 .
