Sending a Fax
If HP OfficeFax is installed on your system you can use HP Desk to send a
fax. See your HP Desk System Administrator to find out if this is
possible on your system.
To send a fax:
1. Create the Distribution List of your message, adding a fax gateway
name after the addressee's name. For example:
TO: NICK PAINE/FAX
2. Identify the telephone number as a foreign address by enclosing it
in brackets. For example:
TO: NICK PAINE/FAX (296-477-8215)
3. HP Desk will prompt you for the text. Type the message line
pressing Return at the end of each line. To end the message type
// at the start of a new line.
4. When HP Desk displays the MESSAGE > prompt, mail the message by
typing MAIL
Further Information
* You can send any text that HP Desk can display on-screen but you
will lose enhancements such as bold text.
* You can send HP Graphics Gallery and TIFF graphics files if text
and graphics are in separate parts of the message.
* You can mark the message as URGENT.
* HP Desk automatically adds a title page and includes the
Distribution List of your message.
* The fax gateway name will not necessarily be FAX - check with your
HP Desk System Administrator.
* The telephone number can be up to 20 characters long. You can use
the following symbols in the telephone number:
* A space ( ) or a dash (-) makes it easier to read.
* A hash (#) notifies the operator the dialing sequence is
finished.
* A comma (,) pauses dialing for 1.5 seconds.
* A semicolon (;) waits for up to 15 seconds for the second
dialing tone.
To check if your fax has been sent:
* Set an acknowledgement level of 3 on the message to track it
through the system.
* If for any reason your fax cannot be sent, HP Desk will return the
fax with an explanatory message.
