What is an HP Desk Item?
Anything that you create in HP Desk is an HP Desk item. As you work in
HP Desk you'll quickly discover that there are two types of item you can
create. These are:
* Multi-part container items.
* Single part basic items.
You can OPEN container items and then LIST their contents. These are HP
Desk container items:
* Messages.
* Replies.
* Packages.
* Folders.
When you OPEN a message, reply or package the prompt changes to show the
number of the item, such as MESSAGE 1 >. When you open a folder the
prompt changes to the show the first word of the name of the folder, such
as project >.
You can READ basic items, but you cannot OPEN them. These are some
examples of HP Desk basic items:
* Distribution Lists.
* Documents.
To list the items you have in an area type LIST Return at the area
prompt.
You can type a command followed by IT, to work on the current item. This
is what IT is:
* If you have just looked at an item then that item is IT
* When you move to the In Tray IT is the first new message.
* If you have just moved to any other area IT will be the first item
listed in that area.
In the Calendar the current item is highlighted.
To work on one HP Desk item:
* Type a command followed by the item number, or the item subject.
Subjects must always be enclosed in quotes. For example:
DELETE 1
or
DELETE "NOTES"
* To work on the current message or item, type a command followed by
IT For example:
PRINT IT
To work on more than one HP Desk item:
* There are some commands that you cannot use with more than one
item, such as CONVERT, EDIT, ENCRYPT and OPEN.
* To work on several items in sequence separate the item numbers by
commas. For example:
READ 1,2
* To work on a range of items type a command followed by the first
and last message numbers separated by a slash (/). For example:
DELETE 1/10
