Controlling System Activity
Controlling Jobs and Sessions
Interactive data processing can be defined as a dialog between user and
computer. Data is entered via a keyboard terminal. The computer
immediately answers by running processes and/or displaying prompts,
messages, and other types of information. A period of time spent
processing data interactively is called a session.
Batch data processing occurs when data is entered into the system in bulk
from a batch entry device, such as a spooled disk. When data is entered
and processed in batch, the activity is called a job.
