Introducing HP Easytime/iX

by Gordon MacKinney
Computer Systems Boeblingen

HP Easytime/iX (version A.00.01) is an easy-to-use interface to commonly
performed system management functions on low-end 9x7 MPE/iX systems. It
is similar to HP Easytime, which was released in 1987 for MPE V micros.

Based upon a state-of-the-art interface (UIMS ISA Dialog Manager) and
architecture, HP Easytime/iX provides a simple way to access the most
commonly used system management utilities. Context-sensitive online help
addresses the needs of the intended users: novice system managers and
end users with limited computer experience. HP Easytime/iX makes the
administration of MPE/iX systems possible without costly training.

PRODUCT FEATURES HP Easytime/iX consists of a logical and simple-to-use
hierarchy of windows that help simplify system management tasks, yet
still provide access to fundamental operating system functionality. The

       leaving HP Easytime/iX

startup screen, whether console elimination is on or off,

termials supported by UIMS ISA Dialog Manager may be used: HP 2392A, HP
700/9x and PC links emulating 2392A terminals (for example, AdvanceLink).
UNIX-to-MPE connections using vt3k are not supported.

Software Requirements

HP Easytime/iX requires this MPE/iX operating system or later versions.

NOTE HP Easytime/iX menu items, screen behavior, help text, and manuals have been specifically designed for the user who has little computer experience. As a result, more experienced system administrators may find HP Easytime/iX to be simplistic and may, therefore, prefer to use the MPE/iX command line interface. Additionally, because HP Easytime/iX primarily addresses the routine management of smaller systems, many midrange and high-end environments will require functionality beyond that provided by HP`Easytime/iX.
