COMMUNICATOR 3000 MPE MPE/iX RELEASE 4.0
Information Access SQL/XL and NewWave Access
by Guy Randazzo
Software Technology Division
Information Access (IA) SQL/XL now includes support for the Ingres RDBMS
database. Previous versions of IA SQL/XL supported only ALLBASE and
ORACLE.
INSTALLATION
Ingres support is obtained using 2 new servers, IASOLID.PPC.SYS and
IASOLIDV.PPC.SYS. These servers use the Remote Process Management (RPM)
facility of Network Services/3000 to communicate with the PC. To initiate
the RPM listener process, JIASOLID.PPC.SYS, needs to be running at all
times. To initiate the job, simply modify JIASOLID to add MANAGER.SYS
passwords and stream it when you want to get access to Ingres databases.
The IA SQL/XL server, IASOLIDV.PPC.SYS, assumes that the Ingres XL is
located in CLPRIV.XL.INGRES. This file MUST exist at this location for
the server to work.
ORACLE and ALLBASE database access has not changed.
For more details on IA SQL/iX, please consult your IA SQL/iX System
Management manual.
NEWWAVE ACCESS
The newest version of NewWave Access is needed to access Ingres using IA
SQL/iX. The version number of this latest NewWave Access release is
A.04.00. This new version of NewWave Access has a number of other new
enhancements including:
* Runs under Microsoft Windows without HP NewWave. The previous
version of NewWave Access required the HP NewWave Desktop product.
* Support of Gupta's SQLBase, including access to DB2 databases on
IBM mainframes using the Gupta DB2 Gateway product.
* Supports Microsoft SQL Server on OS/2.
* Supports Ingres, Informix, and Progress on the HP 9000 (requires
IA SQL/UX, version A.07.30)
* Supports SYBASE on the HP 9000.
* Supports local Paradox databases.
* Supports minimize.
INFORMATION ACCESS PC
Information Access PC, the character based client product, has not been
enhanced to access the Ingres database using IA SQL/iX. Access PC will
retain support for access to ALLBASE and ORACLE databases on MPE/iX.
