Introducing Token Ring 3000/iX Network Link

by Jane Yuan
Information Networks Division

Token Ring 3000/iX Network Link provides a native Token Ring connection
for the HP 3000 Series 900 system with HP-PB (HP Precision Bus or NIO)
backplane. This product can be used to connect your HP 3000 Series 900
system to a Token Ring network that is compatible with either IEEE802.5
or IBM Token Ring or both. Your HP 3000 Series 900 system running Token
Ring 3000/iX Network Link can act as a Server for your PC Token Ring
networks using either the TCP/IP or the Novell Netware IPX transport.
The networking services available include LAN Manager/XL, Novell Netware,
and ARPA and Network Services. The product also supports networking
applications developed using NetIPC or a subset of the 4.3 BSD Socket.

The product supports 4 Mbps (megabit-per-second) or 16 Mbps link speed.
This allows you to easily integrate HP systems into your existing Token
Ring networks. Additionally, if your networks are currently configured
at 4 Mbps, HP Token Ring 3000/iX is able to support 16 Mbps when you
migrate your networks to the higher data link speed. The only
modification required at that time is to set a jumper on the card to the
new link speed. Token Ring 3000/iX Network Link supports shielded
twisted pair (STP) and unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cabling.

Token Ring 3000/iX Network Link includes the Token Ring network adapter
(a half-sized HP-PB/NIO card), Token Ring driver, TCP/IP Transport and
hardware and software manuals. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
Agent and Basic/Incoming Virtual Terminal (VT) service are bundled with
the product.
