The Compute Challenge
During the design, construction and running stages of a detector its expected behaviour needs to be simulated.
This is done using Monte Carlo simulation programs that produce "raw" (or nearly raw) data.
To get physics out of the "raw" (simulated or recorded) data it needs to be processed. The typical processing steps are:
- callibration, reconstruction and analysis
Each step requires massive amounts of CPU power.
