The Data Challenge

• The current generation of accelerators and detectors produce several TB of data per year.

• Future LHC detectors will produce data with a rate of 100 MB/s to 1.5 GB/s. That is several PB per year.

• The LHC experiments will run for at least 10-15 years.

• This requires massive amounts of storage capacity.
