When you initiate a disaster recovery service contract, use backups to
test for system compatibility problems and bugs in your disaster
recovery system. As time passes, perform periodic tests (for example,
every quarter) to ensure that your systems remain compatible and your
disaster recovery procedures work well. Also test your disaster
recovery system whenever you change it. You can either notify the
facility in advance, to minimize costs and interruption of the recovery
facility, or you can do a full-scale simulation. Either way, prepare a
test plan and have it approved by all parties.
