Before you begin the process of configuring the X.25 iX System Access link, you must define the physical layout and configuration parameters for the system-to- system network connections that will be required for the system you are configuring. Once you have determined what the configuration should be, you can begin the process of entering the configuration values into NMMGR.

Configuration values that you must determine include a network interface name and type and an address for the system being configured. You must also determine whether any of the nodes on your network are gateway nodes, and identify neighbor gateways.

Table 5-1 “Configuration Values for X.25 Link” shows the configuration values that you will need to enter, along with the screen on which each is entered. The parameters are listed in alphabetical order.

NOTE: This manual assumes the use of the guided configuration branch. Only the parameters configured during guided configuration are listed.

Comment

Address key

X.25 Virtual Circuit Configuration

In the network directory, the name of each node listed in the remote node name field. HP recommends that you use the node portion of the remote node's node name as the address key.

Card number

X.25 Configuration

Slot number of the DTC/X.25 Network Access card.

DTC node name

X.25 Configuration

Node name of the DTC in the form node.domain.organization. Must agree with node name configured through the DTC configuration on the DTC Configuration screen. The node name must be entered for each DTC/X.25 Network Access card that allows system-to-system connections.

Facility set

X.25 Virtual Circuit Configuration

For SVCs only. In the network directory, a facility set name for a collection of X.25 connection parameters. Use the default (STDSFSET) or enter a different name then go to Facility Sets to define parameters.

Hops

Neighbor Gateway Reachable Networks

Number of hops (full gateways) needed to get from the system being configured to the reachable network.

IP address

X.25 Configuration

The internet protocol (IP) address of the system (node) being configured.

IP subnet mask

X.25 Configuration

Optional. Identifies which bits of the IP address will be used to define a subnetwork.

Link name

X.25 Configuration

Name of the link used by X.25 iX System Access. Must match the link name configured through the DTC configuration on the DTC X.25 Card Configuration — Sys-to- Sys LUGs screen. A link name must be entered for each DTC/X.25 Network Access card that allows system-to-system connections.

Local domain name

NS Configuration

Optional. Name of the system in ARPANET standard format.

Local HP 3000 node name

Main

Node name of the HP 3000 system you are configuring.

Neighbor gateways

MNeighbor Gateways

The name of any gateway that is on the same network as the node you are configuring. (There may not be any neighbor gateways.)

Neighbor gateway IP internet address

Neighbor Gateway Reachable Networks

IP internet address of the configured gateway(s).

Network interface (NI) name

Guided HP Configuration

Name, up to eight characters long, representing the network interface being configured.

Network interface (NI) type

Guided HP Configuration

Enter 3 to indicate an X.25 NI.

Permanent VC number

X.25 Virtual Circuit Configuration

For PVCs only. In the network directory, the number of the permanent virtual circuit on the remote node.

Reachable network IP network address

Neighbor Gateway Reachable Networks

The IP address of all remote nodes that can be reached through the gateway.

Reachable network IP mask

Neighbor Gateway Reachable Networks

Optional subnet mask for the reachable network.

Remote IP address

X.25 Virtual Circuit Configuration

In the network directory, the IP address of each node listed in the remote node name field.

Remote node name

X.25 Virtual Circuit Configuration

In the network directory, name of each remote X.25 node on the network.

Remote X.25 address

X.25 Virtual Circuit Configuration

For SVCs only. In the network directory, the X.25 address of the remote host for X.25 public data networks or private networks.

Security class

X.25 Virtual Circuit Configuration

For SVCs only. In the network directory, the security to be applied for connection establishment with the remote node.
