Printer name

Optional field which names the printer port. You may enter up to 16 characters or an IP address. For routable back-to-back environments, field must contain a valid IP address for the printer port in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Number of hosts sharing printer

Specifies the number of hosts that can share the printer. If the port is being accessed by one system, and a second system attempts to access the port, the second system will be put in a queue and will be allowed to access the port when the first system is done. If more than the specified number of hosts attempt to access the port, the spooler will be stopped on error on the systems that exceeds the limit. The maximum allowed is 5 hosts and the default value is 1.

Enable port?

Specifies whether communication can be established to the port. Enter an N to disable the port. The default is Y. If disabled, no connections can be established to the port.

Dedicated printer?

Specifies whether the printer can be accessed by a single system or multiple systems. If enabled, the printer can only be accessed by the host specified in the "Default destination" field. You must enter a valid host name in the "Default destination" field if the "Dedicated printer?" field is enabled. Enter an N to allow the printer to be shared by more than one system. The default is Y.

Automatic connection?

Specifies whether a connection is automatically established to the system specified in the "Default destination" field. If enabled, the DTC senses the modem signal's rise and automatically connects the device to the value of "Default destination". Field is valid for modem ports only ("Modem behavior" field on Printer Profile screen must be set to 1, 2, or 3).

Enable keep alive?

Specifies whether "keep alive" mechanism is to be activated. When there is no data transfer between the DTC and system, then the "keep alive" mechanism is used to detect if the connection is still there. The default value is Y (enable). Enter and N to disable the field. Not applicable for DTC 48 without the memory extension.

Save port config in binary?

Specifies whether the port configuration parameters data length and parity settings will be maintained when a binary mode is selected. If set to Y, then the port configuration remains unchanged when binary mode is selected. If set to N, then the data length is set to 8 and parity is set to none when binary mode is selected. The default is N. Supported on DTC 16iX/DTC 16MX and DTC 72MX only.

Default destination

This field specifies the system to which the printer is dedicated if "Dedicated printer" is enabled, or to which the printer will connect when automatic connection is enabled. The field is required if "Dedicated Printer" is set to Y or if "Automatic Conneciton" is set to Y. Field can be a node name in the format name.domain.organization or an IP address in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Default is the entry in the field "Local HP 3000 node name" on the Main screen.

Initialization string

Optional field that specifies the string that will be sent to the attached device under one of the following circumstances:

  • After resetting a port.

  • After the port is closed at the end of the spool file.

  • After establishing a connection to the DTC user interface for modem connections when all modem signals are up.

Field is case-sensitive and can be up to 16 characters, including special characters and escape-code sequences in the format ^char.
