COMMUNICATOR 3000/XL Release 1.2, Version A.20.10

Chapter 2 SYSTEM INFORMATION

MPE XL System Startup Options

by Herman Chao--Commercial Systems Division

With MPE XL Release 1.2, the rules for determining NORECOVERY or RECOVERY
have changed for the purpose of saving spoolfiles.

NORECOVERY

The system defaults to NORECOVERY on the first START after INSTALL or
UPDATE. Basically, NORECOVERY is used if the system configuration has
changed and no spoolfiles and restartable jobs need to be recovered. The
system will use the new configuration files and save them in the BOOTUP
group when a START NORECOVERY is specified.

The following example starts the system with the configuration files
stored in the group CONFG930 and saves them in the BOOTUP group.

     ISL> START NORECOVERY GROUP=CONFG930

RECOVERY

The system defaults to RECOVERY for all other regular boots. When
RECOVERY is specified (or default) and the system configuration has been
changed via SYSGEN, the system will recover the spoolfiles and restart
the restartable jobs. These jobs are restarted by ignoring the new
system configuration and using the previous system configuration, which
is saved in the BOOTUP group.

The following example starts the system with the configuration stored in
the group CONFIG.

     ISL> START [RECOVERY] GROUP=CONFIG

However, if the system configuration has been changed via SYSGEN or the
group to start the system is not the same as last time, the system will
use the configuration saved in the BOOTUP group to start the system in
order to save the spoolfiles since the RECOVERY is specified.
