Introducing HP Symbolic Debugger/XL

HP SYMBOLIC DEBUGGER/XL INCREASES PRODUCTIVITY 

HP Symbolic Debugger/XL is a powerful, full featured symbolic debugger to
help users locate and correct errors in programs.  The feature set
facilitates high programmer productivity and user friendliness.  This
window-oriented debugger allows the user to examine the program state in
which an error or some other condition occurs.  The user may then take
corrective action and resume execution, or abort the program.

An Important Alternative for Debugging Programs 

HP Symbolic Debugger/XL is an example of leveraged technology across HP
Precision Architecture systems.  Its origin is the 9000 Series 800, where
it was developed to support the languages operating under HP-UX (i.e., C,
FORTRAN 77 and Pascal).  As a result, languages supported by HP Symbolic
Debugger/XL include:  HP C/XL, HP FORTRAN 77/XL, and HP Pascal/XL. These
are all available on the 900 Series of HP 3000 systems.

The addition of HP Symbolic Debugger/XL creates an alternative for some
involved in code development.  The choices are illustrated below.


Evaluating the Alternatives 

HP FORTRAN 77/XL and HP Pascal/XL users have a choice between HP TOOLSET
and HP Symbolic Debugger/XL. That choice will largely depend on
recognizing so key differences between the two products.

HP TOOLSET/XL is essentially three products in one.  It contains a full
screen editor, a version control mechanism, and a symbolic debug facility
for COBOL II/XL and HP Pascal/XL. HP TOOLSET/XL provides only symbolic
debug support HP FORTRAN 77/XL.

The HP Symbolic Debugger/XL provides powerful symbolic debug facility for
HP C/XL, HP FORTRAN 77/XL and HP Pascal/XL. For an in-depth feature

The ultimate selection may be one of these alternatives or a blend of
several.  In addition, the assembly-level Debugger/XL is available on
FOS.

HP Symbolic Debugger/XL (P/N 31508A/R) is available at System Release and
may be ordered separately or at a discount with HP C/XL in the HP C/XL
Programmer's Package (P/N 31507A).
