COMMUNICATOR 3000/XL

Introducing HP C/XL

by Bob Fillhouer--Commercial Systems Division

AN IMPORTANT ADDITION TO HP NATIVE MODE COMPILERS

HP C/XL is the Hewlett-Packard implementation of C for the 900 Series of
HP 3000 systems. It is a general-purpose programming language that
provides the convenience and portability of a high-level language with
the flexibility and efficiency of assembly language.

C is widely used for both systems-level and applications-level
programming. And due to its portable nature, C is regarded as an
excellent vehicle for transporting applications between systems.

HP C/XL is compatible with: the Corporate Computer Systems (CCS) CCS/C
3000* (for MPE V-based systems); the CCS C compiler for the HP 1000; and
the Hewlett-Packard C compiler for the HP 9000 Series 300, 500, and 800.

HP C/XL includes the powerful and portable C library, which allows string
handling, dynamic storage allocation, file manipulation, and format
conversion. In addition, the C language offers an excellent migration
path for SPL/3000 code. The compatibility between CCS/C 3000 for MPE V,
and HP C for MPE XL, allows the SPL user to migrate code to C on MPE V
and then port that code to MPE XL in the future.

Increased Programmer Productivity

The HP Symbolic Debugger/XL is a powerful, full featured debugger for HP
C/XL users, which allows debugging at both the source and assembly
language levels. In addition to HP C/XL, HP Symbolic Debugger/XL
supports debugging of programs written in FORTRAN, Pascal, and any
combination of these languages.

Availability

HP C/XL is available at System Release as an individual product (P/N
31506A/R) or with the HP Symbolic Debugger/XL in the HP C/XL Developer's
Package (P/N 31507A).
