HP ALLBASE/SQL PC API User's Guide
System Requirements
Each database server and PC client must provide a supporting environment
for PC API. The database server and PC client are connected by a local
area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN). Verify with your HP
networking support engineer that your networking topology (including
hubs, gateways, and networking routers) is supported by HP.
Database Server Supporting Environment
The required and optional hardware and software for the database server
are listed here.
Hardware.
* HP 3000 Series 900
* ThinLAN 3000/XL (36923A) including a LANIC card
Software.
* Operating system:
* MPE/iX 4.0 or higher (51453A)
* MPE XL Server Media Product (36396A)
* Database software: ALLBASE/SQL A.F0.41 or higher (36216A)
* Data communication software: One of the following, depending on
the protocol you are using:
* TCP/IP protocol - HP ThinLAN 3000/XL (36923A)
* SPX/IPX protocol - HP ThinLAN 3000/XL (36923A) and NetWare
for the HP 3000 (32020A). The NetWare product will be
referred to as NetWare/XL throughout this guide.
Optional Software.
* HP LAN Manager/XL (32015A). This product is the host side of HP
LAN Manager and allows clients with HP LAN Manager full
participation in any HP LAN Manager network.
* Resource Sharing (B1718A). This product provides file and print
sharing for LAN Manager/XL networks.
* HP Network Services 3000/XL (36920). This product provides
networking capabilities between locally or remotely networked HP
3000 systems. This product is not required because the necessary
data communication capabilities are included with the MPE XL
Server Media.
* ALLBASE/DB2 CONNECT (30700A). This product provides access to a
DB2 database residing on an IBM mainframe.
PC Client Supporting Environment
The required and optional hardware and software for the PC client is
listed here.
Hardware.
* Intel-based 80386 or 80486 PC with graphics capability
* Mouse
* LAN Card
* Minimum of 4 MBytes of extended memory; 8 MBytes is recommended
* Minimum of 1.2 MByte disk storage; 2 MBytes is recommended
Additionally, you must meet the disk storage requirements of the
application software you are going to use with PC API.
Software.
HP products are followed by product numbers in parentheses.
* HP ALLBASE/SQL PC API (B2463A) A.F0.00 or higher
* MS-DOS 3.3 or higher
* Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher, standard or enhanced mode
* Networking software. Choose one:
* For use with TCP/IP protocol. Choose one:
* HP Network Services 2.1/MS-DOS or higher (D1811B)
* HP ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS or higher (D1812B)
* For use with SPX/IPX protocol. Choose one:
* Client software included with NetWare/XL (32020A)
* NetWare 3.11 (Novell, Inc.)
* HP ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS for Novell NetWare
(D1823A). With this product you do not need
NetWare/XL on the database server. Also, you can
use both TCP/IP and SPX/IX protocols.
* For use with either TCP/IP or SPX/IPX Protocol:
* HP PC ARPA and Network Services (NS) for MS-DOS,
Microsoft LAN Manager, and Novell NetWare (J2246A)
This product combines and supercedes the HP ARPA and
Network Services 2.1 products.
* Application software. Refer to the next section for compatible
products.
Optional Software.
HP products are followed by product numbers in parentheses.
* Memory manager, such as Quarterdeck Expanded Memory Manager/386
(QEMM) 5.1 or higher (Quarterdeck) or 386Max 6.0 or higher
(Qualitas).
* HP LAN Manager 1.1 (D1810 B). HP LAN Manager 1.1 must be used with
either HP Network Services 2.1/MS-DOS or HP ARPA Services
2.1/MS-DOS. It enables client applications to participate in any
HP LAN Manager network. (LAN Manager can run stand-alone, but it
will not support PC API).
* MS LAN Manager 2.1 (Microsoft Corporation) must be used with
Network Services 2.1/MS-DOS or HP ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS,
version B.03.00. Table 1-1 shows the versions of LAN Manager
you can use with either HP Network Services or HP ARPA Services:
