Making a LAN Connection

If you communicate with your HP 3000 over a LAN, be sure the network
software is loaded on your PC before you run HP LaserRX/MPE.

For information on loading network software, see the appropriate network
software user's guide or ask for help from your site's network
administrator.

To Connect to an HP 3000 (LAN)

   1. Select the Connect LAN command under the File menu.

       The following dialog box appears:

[]
Figure 4-3. Connect LAN Dialog Box 2. Enter the logon by clicking on the Hello box and typing a logon string. The recommended logon is MANAGER.SYS,SCOPE. You must provide the logon user and account information, along with necessary passwords. You can enter a logon string (up to 72 characters long) in which you can specify such things as custom session names. This establishes a session on the HP 3000. Passwords are masked as they are entered. You will see an @ for every letter entered. The logon string is encrypted in the WIN.INI file.
CAUTION You are advised to log in to SCOPE.SYS. Logging in to any other group prevents MPE V systems from finding the remote data communications library. (This is not necessary for MPE XL systems if default security is used for the SCOPE.SYS group.) With MPE V systems, you can log into another group by making a copy of the communications library--SL.SCOPE.SYS--in that logon group. This is not recommended since you would have to remember to repeat this copy with every HP LaserRX/MPE software update.
3. Enter a node name by clicking the node box. The node entry is required to tell the network software the node name of the HP 3000 to which you will connect. 4. Click OK to process the File Connect LAN command and issue the logon command to the HP 3000. You can make up to five connections--five LAN or one serial and four LAN. To Set LAN Connect Defaults If you use the same logon and node most of the time, you may want to set them as defaults in the LAN Connect dialog box. 1. Open the Configure menu and select LAN Connect. The LAN Connect dialog box will appear. 2. Enter your LAN connect defaults. The fields in the LAN Connect dialog box are identical to those in the Connect LAN dialog box located under the File menu. See "To Connect to an HP 3000 (LAN)" in this chapter or "LAN Connect Command" . 3. Click Save to use these settings for this HP LaserRX/MPE session and to save them as defaults for future sessions. If you click OK, you use these settings for this session, but maintain previous settings as defaults. To Disconnect from the HP 3000 (LAN) 1. Select the Disconnect LAN command under the File menu. The following dialog box appears.
