Installing and Managing HP ARPA File Transfer Protocol Network Manager's Guide

Starting FTP Monitor

To start the FTP server monitor process, stream the job JFTPSTRT provided
with the FTP product.

Use the sample job file as a model to modify for your installation. For
example, if you have a separate job to start the links and network
services, you can add the :stream JFTPSTRT.ARPA.SYS statement to your job
to automatically start the FTP monitor process.

Figure 3-1 is a printout of the included job file.

The RPM network service must be started before the FTP monitor process is
run (see the statement NSCONTROL start=RPM,RPML in the sample job). The
RPM service is provided with the FTP product.

Providing Access to the FTP Server Only

For security reasons, you can prevent MPE/iX users from running the FTP
user program by locking the file named FTP.ARPA.SYS with the MPE/iX
command ALTSEC.

Providing Access to the MPE/iX FTP User Only

To prevent remote users from accessing the MPE/iX FTP server, do not
start or run the FTP monitor process.

Stopping the FTP Server

To stop the FTP monitor, issue the command, ABORTJOB FTP.SYS.

Figure 3-1. FTP Job File JFTPSTRT

Changing Logging

Logging FTPMON errors is started when you stream the JFTPSTRT job as
shown in the sample job file (Figure 3-1).

To stop logging:

   1. Stop the monitor process by issuing an ABORTJOB FTP.SYS

   2. Purge the FTPLOG.ARPA.SYS file on your system.

   3. Edit the JFTPSTRT file (Figure 3-1) by commenting out
the statements to create and alter security on the file
       FTPLOG.ARPA.SYS. Save the edited file.

   4. Stream the JFTPSTRT job to start FTP.
