Tailoring Initial Introductory Help
When a user enters any area of HP Desk, five lines of text, consisting of
a summary of the commands available in that area can be displayed. Users
can choose whether they wish to see this reminder summary, as it is a
configurable part of their User Profile. You can edit this text, if you
wish, to be anything that users might find useful.
Each five line block of help text is actually a batch file record held in
the file INITHELP.MAILCONF.HPOFFICE. Each batch file record refers to one
area of HP Desk. This is similar to the way that function key records
are held (see Chapter 3 ).
NOTE The file INITHELP.MAILCONF.HPOFFICE only includes commands for HP
DeskManager. Should you wish to include HP DeskManagerPLUS
commands you must edit the file.
The mapping of areas to batch file records is as follows:
Batch file record | HP Desk area
number |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - In Tray
2 - Out Tray
3 - Pending Tray
4 - Work Area
5 - List Area
6 - Filing Cabinet
7 - Administration Area
10 - Opened Message
11 - Opened Folder
12 - Opened Package
13 - Distribution List
14 - Designate Area (in Admin)
15 - Calendar/Diary
16 - Library (in HP File/Library)
17 - Opened catalog (in HP File/Library)
18 - Applications Area
21 - Security Area (in HP File/Library)
This means for example, that when a user opens a message, the contents of
batch record 10 will be displayed. Note that for this to happen, the
initial list given on entry to area flag for messages must be set to "Y"
in the user's Profile.
To tailor the text, you must use the VPLUS/3000 Entry program to edit the
forms file INITHELP.MAILLIB.HPOFFICE. When running ENTRY.PUB.SYS, specify
the forms file as being HELPFORM.MAILLIB.HPOFFICE and the batch file as
being INITHELP.MAILCONF.HPOFFICE. You are at liberty to modify any of the
existing records in the file but do not delete them. Again it would be
worthwhile to take a backup copy of the file INITHELP before working on
it.
Modifying the information is done as follows:
1. Log on to MPE as MGR.HPOFFICE,MAILDB.
2. Run the Entry program by typing RUN ENTRY.PUB.SYS.
3. As the forms file, specify HELPFORM.MAILLIB.HPOFFICE.
4. As the batch file, specify INITHELP.MAILCONF.HPOFFICE.
5. Type your text into the form template, as required.
6. Save the changes and leave the Entry program.
