HP DeskManager Customization
Chapter 17 Programming for Administration
This chapter describes the format of the following:
* HP Desk Logging files
HP Desk uses log files which detail particular events within HP
Desk. They are:
* STATSFIL.MAILDB.HPOFFICE which is where any changes in the
status of HP Desk are recorded, and
* AUDITFIL.MAILDB.HPOFFICE which holds information on the
movement of messages around the network.
Neither of these files can be accessed while HP Desk is running.
However, after the Mailmaint is run, the contents of these files
are stored in:
* OLDSTATS.MAILDB.HPOFFICE which contains the information
from the STATSFIL file, and
* OLDAUDIT.MAILDB.HPOFFICE which contains the information
from the AUDITFIL file.
The data in these files can then be analyzed to check on any
problems that may have occurred, which is done most easily by
writing a program that can extract information from the data held
in these files.
* Network Statistics Reports
These are used to monitor the way your HP Desk system is running
within a network. You can:
* Monitor messages to, from and through your computer.
* Spot potential bottlenecks in the system.
* Pinpoint the cause of delays in the delivery of messages.
* Allocate data communications charges amongst your own
departments and the computers which route messages through
your machine.
* Determine how much use individual users are making of the
system.
* The Maintenance Report File (MSORTOUT)
In order to produce the main maintenance reports MAILMAINT gathers
the relevant information, stores it, sorts it, processes it and
then produces the reports. In the process of this it produces the
file MSORTOUT which contains all the information used in these
files. You may want to use the contents of MSORTOUT to produce
your own reports.
* The Newmail Notification IPC File
If the file MTELLIPC exists, or is file equated, notification of
new mail is written to this file instead of to the user's
terminal.
NOTE You must stream the job CHNGLOG.MAILJOB to make the AUDITFIL and
the STATSFIL accessible, since this will not be done by Mailmaint.
Alternatively, you could strem this job from within your own job
stream. You should ensure thatthe sizes of these log files are
large enough for your installation. If necessary, both the
MAILMNT2 and CHNGLOG jobs should be modified accordingly. See HP
DeskManager Administration for further information.
