MPE V/E Manuals
Most of the manuals described in this guide have been written
specifically to support MPE/iX on the 900 Series HP 3000. There are some
exceptions, and, in those instances, you will find manuals described that
were written to support MPE V/E products.
This is done since an MPE/iX-based system is compatible with an MPE
V/E-based system. Programs
created for MPE V/E-based systems can run without change on an
MPE/iX-based system. This is called running in compatibility mode.
Some MPE V/E products will be used, running in compatibility mode, until
MPE/iX-specific products are developed. In the interim, the MPE V/E
manual set supports these products.
Some MPE V/E products can run in compatibility mode, but will not be
replaced with MPE/iX-specific products. These products are not
identified in this guide and will continue to be supported by the MPE V/E
manual set.
The criteria used to determine which set of manuals are described in this
guide are as follows:
* MPE/iX products currently developed and implemented are documented
by the MPE/iX manual set.
* Existing MPE V/E products for which an MPE/iX version is planned,
but is not currently developed, are documented by the MPE V/E
manual set. These existing MPE V/E products will run in
compatibility mode on
MPE/iX. They are included in this guide.
* Existing MPE V/E products that can run in compatibility mode on
MPE/iX, but which will not be replaced with an MPE/iX version, are
not described in this guide. Refer to the MPE V/E manual set for
information on these products.
The products and languages that can run in compatibility mode on
MPE/iX are listed in the Introduction to MPE XL for MPE V Programmers
(30367-90005).
