Performing System Operation Tasks

Identifying Page Printers

You control most page printers by using the RUN or HALT keys. This
allows you to start or stop the printing process without turning off the
power.

If you are using a printer that is not manufactured by Hewlett-Packard,
consult the operator's manual to find out how to start and stop the
printing process.

To operate a page printer, you should be familiar with the page printer
control panel. The following illustration displays the printer control
panel.

The following table describes the most commonly used page printer functions. Table 3-1. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | Controls | Description | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | Front ON/OFF Switch | The operator's ON/OFF switch. Located near the paper splicing | | | table, this switch controls AC power throughout the printer. | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | LED Display | The front panel LED display provides a visual indication of the | | | operational status of the tape drive. The LED display consists | | | of one red, one green, and one yellow LED. | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | RUN Indicator | The RUN indicator lights up when the printer is either waiting | | | for or printing data. | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | RUN Key | When the RUN key is pressed, the printer accepts data | | | transmitted from the computer and the WARMING UP message is | | | displayed until the printer is ready. | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | HALT Key | When the HALT key is pressed, the halt sequence begins and the | | | printer stops printing data after the current page has been | | | printed. | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | ADJUST PRINT/ | The four keys are used to adjust the position of the print on | | POSITION Keys | the paper.
