Performing an Automatic Configuration Inside NMMGR [ Configuring Systems for Terminals, Printers, and Other Serial Devices ] MPE/iX 5.5 Documentation
Configuring Systems for Terminals, Printers, and Other Serial Devices
Performing an Automatic Configuration Inside NMMGR
An automatic configurationcan also be performed by invoking the DTCCNTRL
command file inside the NMMGR utility. Refer to chapter 5 for detailed
steps on the NMMGR DTS host-based management configuration process. To
automatically add and configure a DTC within NMMGR, you must still
provide the DTC's LAN address. Also, as with performing an automatic
configuration outside NMMGR, all serial ports using DTCCNTRL will be
configured as nailed, direct connect terminal ports using the terminal
profile TR10AUTO.
NOTE You can only perform automatic configuration of new DTCs if you are
operating in a host-based management environment. In a PC-based
management environment, NMMGR will report an error if the automatic
configuration is invoked.
Step 1: Use Valid Configuration File
You must first already have a valid network configuration file and your
HP 3000 must not have experienced any Datacommunication Configurator
(DCC) errors during the last reboot. Refer to appendix D for more
information on DCC error messages.
Step 2: Activate Automatic Configuration Process
The DTC Configuration Selection Screen(see Figure 3-1 ) is displayed
when you press the [Go to DTC] key at the Host Configuration Screen.
Here you can access the DTC Automatic Configuration Screenand activate
the automatic configuration process.
Figure 3-1. DTC Configuration Selection Screen
Follow the steps listed here to enter data for this screen.
1. In the "Automatically add/configure a new DTC (Y/N)?" field, enter
a Y and press the [Enter] key.
2. The DTC Automatic Configuration Screen will appear.
Step 3: Complete Automatic configuration
The DTC Automatic Configuration Screenappears (see Figure 3-2 ).
Figure 3-2. The DTC Automatic Configuration Screen
Follow the steps listed here.
1. Make sure that the power for the DTC that you want to
automatically add and configure is turned on.
2. Enter the LAN addressof the DTC to be configured in the "DTC LAN
station address" field. The LAN address can be found on a label
inside the front cover or on the back panel of the actual DTC box.
Note that the LAN address is different from the IP address which
is discussed in step 4 below.
3. (Optional) Enter the DTC node namein the format
node.domain.organization in the "DTC node name" field. If you
leave this field blank, a default DTC node name will be created.
The default node name created will be DTCxxxx.domain.organization,
where xxxx are the last four digits of the DTC's LAN address and
domain.organization are taken from the host's node name.
4. (Optional) Enter the DTC IP address in the "DTC IP Address" field.
The IP address is used if your HP 3000 is configured as part of a
network and you want the DTC to be able to respond to PING/iX
requests
5. Press the [Auto Config] function key to invoke DTCCNTRL and start
the automatic configuration process.
6. The following will appear on the screen indicating successful DTC
automatic configuration:
DTCxxxx.domain.organization automatic configuration in
progress.....
(DTC download messages will appear here if you are at the system
console.)
DTCxxxx.domain.organization configured and downloaded
successfully.
All ports configured successfully.
(Press RETURN when done viewing screen contents)
7. Press the [Return] key when you have finished viewing the
automatic configuration messages. You will return to the DTC
Automatic Configuration screen.
When automatic configuration is complete, a default configuration
is created in the NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS file. The default
configuration will be saved with DTC name as DTCxxxx where "xxxx"
is the last 4 digits on the LAN address.
8. You may automatically configure other DTCs from this screen by
repeating steps 1 through 7 for each DTC. If you have
automatically configured all desired DTCs, proceed to step 9.
9. Press [Prior Screen] to return to the DTC Configuration Selection
screen. From here, you may continue with other DTS configuration
changes (refer to chapter 5 for steps on how to do this) or exit
NMMGR. If you decide to exit and have already completed other DTS
configuration changes in addition to an automatic DTC
configuration, you must first validate and cross-validate your
configuration file. Otherwise, you may simply exit NMMGR.
