HP ALLBASE/4GL Run-Time Administration Manual

Chapter 4 System Security

Introduction

This chapter describes the security provisions of the HP ALLBASE/4GL
system.

These provisions include controlling user access to HP ALLBASE/4GL
applications on your system, controlling user access to items within an
application, and controlling application access to databases. The HP
ALLBASE/4GL system administrator controls all aspects of system security.

HP ALLBASE/4GL Security

HP ALLBASE/4GL allows you to apply security restrictions at a number of
different levels. These restrictions are in addition to the normal user
security provisions of the MPE/iX system.

The initial level of security allows you to limit access to the entire HP
ALLBASE/4GL system to authorized users only. You can apply further
restrictions to ensure that an authorized user only has access to
selected applications.

A further security provision allows you to restrict access to any menu
item within an HP ALLBASE/4GL application to authorized users.

HP ALLBASE/4GL also has a training mode that prevents users writing data
to the application data files while they are learning how to use the
application.

Planning Your Needs

Before you implement the security provisions for your site, it's worth
spending some time planning your needs. Even if you don't have any
confidential files or applications, appropriate security arrangements may
help prevent accidental damage to your system files.
