RJE User/Programmer Reference Manual

Required System Environment

RJE has the following system requirements.

Software

The HP 3000 software that supports RJE consists of MPE, the RJE software,
and BSC Link.

The product number for RJE/XL is HP30295A; the accompanying BSC Link is
HP32007. The product number for RJE/V is HP30248A; the accompanying BSC
Link is HP30215A.

Hardware

RJE requires a minimum HP 3000 computer system configuration and a
communications interface. In addition, HP customers must arrange for the
installation of telephone lines and modems. The RJE/XL Node Manager's
Guide and RJE/V Node Manager's Guide describe recommended modem options.

Remote Processor

The remote processor can be any of the following:

 * Any IBM 370-compatible computer that supports an IBM 2780 Data
Transmission Terminal or IBM 3780 Data Communications Terminal.

 *  An IBM 2780 or IBM 3780.

 * Another HP 3000 computer system which is also using the RJE
    subsystem.

Communications Interface

RJE operation requires the existence of a communications interface in
your HP 3000 computer. The interface can be (for RJE/V) an HP 30020A/B
Intelligent Network Processor (Series 3x/4x/5x/6x/70/ INP) or (for
RJE/XL) a Programmable Serial Interface (PSI) Controller. Jobs or
interactive sessions may run concurrently when each is paired with an
installed communications interface. The number of concurrent users is
limited by the number of interfaces available. Before invoking RJE you
can specify which interface you want to use (hence which line is opened)
by using an MPE file equation or you can use the RJLINE command within
RJE.

Transfer rates depend on the type of communications interface installed
in your computer: for RJE/XL, up to 64 K bps over a PSI and for RJE/V,
up to 56K bps over an INP.
