WHATS NEW IN OPENVIEW SYSTEM MANAGER (A.01.01) ?
The HP OpenView System Manager (A.01.01) is an enhancement of the A.00.01
management and managed node software. Additional and enhanced
functionalities are included to further boost the productivity of the HP
3000 operations and administration staff.
* Automated Response: The ability to run command files or programs
in response to a console message event.
* Task Oriented Filtering: The ability to customize each PC to
report events associated with the desired subsystems. A set of
predefined OS and Networking events are delivered with MPE/iX
Release 4.0.
* Event Review Browser: The ability to display a one line summary
for each outstanding event message belonging to the objects
selected. Events messages can be listed in ascending
chronological order (default) or by severity (critical, warning,
and informational.) Moves selected events out of the current
Events Browser window and into the active folder.
* Enhanced Managed Node Installation. The SysMan PC will assist the
managed node installation using Advance Link termtalk scripts.
Guided installation when performing a new installation or when
updating software for one specific managed node. Automated Update
when updating software on multiple nodes, such as when installing
a software patch that applies to multiple nodes.
* Enhanced Management Session Performance. Multiple managed nodes
VT sessions are handled by the management node instead of using an
Advance Link session for each managed node. This greatly reduces
the initialization time of the management session and eliminated
the four management sessions limitation.
* Link Status Display. The Link Status Display (LSD) utility is a
standalone MPE program used, outside of the HP OpenView
environment, for managing System Manager Console Path and Network
Path communication links.
WHAT IS A TASK BASED OPERATION'S ENVIRONMENT
To provide the flexibility needed to best manage your computing
environment, System Manager allows you to customize your OpenView map to
take advantage of a task based approach to system's management.
The term task based indicated that an operator's OpenView PC workstation
is customized to show only the system events that apply to that
operator's job or task. This feature is especially useful in a data
center environment where different operators are assigned to manage
different parts of the system.
For example, one operator manages the system database, another manages
peripherals such as printers, tape drives, and disk drives, another
operator manages system security, and so on. Each of these operators
need only see system events pertaining to their job, without being
distracted by other unrelated system events.
