COMMUNICATOR 3000 MPE MPE/iX RELEASE 4.0
ThinLAN 3000/XL Link Enhancements
by Nancy DeVore
Information Networks Division
Enhancements have been made to the ThinLAN 3000/XL Link (HP36923A) for
MPE/iX Release 4.0, which provide standard network logging and tracing.
The LINKCONTROL command can be used to enable and disable tracing. There
are three levels of tracing available: none, partial, and full. Partial
frame tracing can be enabled by using the default or partial
sub-parameters of the TRACE=ON parameter of the LINKCONTROL command.
Full frame tracing is enabled by using the data, all, or full
sub-parameters.
Network logging uses NMLG files and is enabled as a configuration
default. Both network log and trace files can be formatted using the
NMDUMP utility. Either file can be formatted by selecting parameter 25
(IEEE 802.3 Link) from the NMDUMP utility subsystem menu.
The LINKCONTROL command statistics output has been modified. The
LINKCONTROL command has four new statistics fields for the HP-PB (HP
Precision Bus) SCSI/Console/LAN (A1703-60003) and HP-PB single-high LAN
(J2146A) cards. The new fields are: Receives Broadcast, Receives
Multicast, Transmit Byte Count, and Receive Byte Count. The statistics
output for the CIO TurboLAN (5062-3313) card still has the Inbound Buffer
Size, Inbound Number of Buffers, Inbound Buffers Available, Out of Tx
bufs, and Out of Rx bufs fields.
