TurboSTORE/iX Enhanced Functionality
by Alice Farrelly
Commercial Systems
Division
All TurboSTORE products on MPE/iX (including NMSTORE) have been enhanced
to include a new option called RENAME. RENAME allows you to designate new
file names on tape for disk files that are stored. As with normal STORE
operations, the ACD associated with the file is copied and does not
change unless the NOCOPY option is specified.
File renaming is useful for archival, manufacturing, software
distribution purposes, and file transfer.
RENAME FUNCTIONALITY
File renaming is invoked through the use of the RENAME option. This
option allows you to assign a new name to the file, group, account, and
creator for each file within a STORE file set stored to tape. Your
original files and their attributes on disk are not affected.
RENAME and Other STORE Options
The RENAME option cannot be used in conjunction with the PURGE, RESTORE,
TRANSPORT nor SPLITVS options. In addition, there are some restrictions
on the display of information when the SHOW option is specified with
RENAME. For more information please refer to the MPE/iX Commands
Reference Manual Vol II (32650-90364).
Invoking the RENAME Option
The following is the syntax for the RENAME option:
:STORE [disk_name = tape_name [:creator][,...]]
[;store_file][;rename[;...]]]
An example of a file renaming STORE command follows.
:STORE diskfile.dgrp.dacct = tapefile.tgrp.tacct : creator;*t;rename;show
Note that if a portion of the tape file name is left out such as the
group, account or both, the user's logon group and account is assumed.
RESTRICTIONS
Tape file name specification adheres to specific restrictions concerning
wild card placement, creator name assignment, lock words and exclusion
file sets. For more details please refer to the MPE/iX Commands
Reference Manual Vol II (32650-90364).
SECURITY
It is necessary to maintain and protect certain files or sets of files
for system security; therefore, the RENAME option includes a user
capability check.
The following table illustrates the capabilities required of a user
renaming the file, group, account and creator names respectively.
