The Advantages of the Intrinsics
The manual HP DeskManager Customization provides comparisons between the
various customization tools that are offered with HP Desk.
The Intrinsics offer some significant advantages over both the Foreign
Service Connection (FSC) and the Application Data Passing mechanism. The
Intrinsics:
* Process incoming and outgoing messages quickly.
* Are easy for applications to handle. The messages are held in
files that use fixed length fields and a rigidly defined format
and so are easy to parse for information.
* Provide two way acknowledgments and reply capabilities on messages
(this only applies to Gateway Intrinsics).
* Can be configured to suit your needs.
* Provide good error handling.
* Provide step by step (chained) document conversion. For example,
a document can be converted from AdvanceWrite to TEXT and then to
DCA. In this case someone could send an AdvanceWrite document and,
as long as the correct converters are available, the recipient
receives a DCA document.
* Are controlled by your application, not HP Desk.
