Chapter 10 How the Intrinsics Affect the Operator Commands
Points to Note if You Run the User Intrinsics
The User Intrinsics will only work if HP Desk's user interface sessions
are enabled. This means a MAILUSERON or MAILON command must have been
issued. If the HP Desk database is unavailable, for example MAILMAINT is
running, the User Intrinsics cannot be used.
It is only possible to use the User Intrinsics while you are signed on as
a user and the HP Desk user interface enablement flag is set. The
MAILOFF, MAILSHUTDOWN, MAILUSEROFF and MAILUSERABORT commands all close
down the Intrinsics Driver program if it is working on behalf of an
application program that is signed on as a user. The Driver process
checks the HP Desk user interface enablement flag before processing each
Intrinsic call, or every 2 minutes (by timed read on its input IPC file).
If the HP Desk user interface has been shutdown in the meantime, the
Driver process will return a suitable error indicator to the calling
application and then terminate tidily.
To turn off the User Intrinsics, issue a MAILUSEROFF, MAILOFF or
MAILSHUTDOWN command.
The MAILSTATUS command can be used as it is normally used within HP Desk
and shows if user interface sessions are enabled.

MAILSHOWUSER shows all users signed on to HP Desk. People signed on
using a User Intrinsic are identified by an asterisk after their name.
