To configure your system and its peripherals, you must know what pieces of equipment make up your system's set up. You can use MAPPER to find out what is connected to your system. You can also ask your HP Representative or refer to your Purchase Order to help you determine this.

If you have purchased any additional external disk drives, use the VOLUTIL utility to define and initialize them.

NOTE: If you have NOT purchased any additional external disk drives, skip to the next section entitled, To remove preconfigured LDEVs from your system.
  1. Log on as MANAGER.SYS:

      :HELLO MANAGER.SYS;HIPRI Return

  2. At the system prompt, type the following to get into VOLUTIL:

      : VOLUTIL Return

  3. Use the VOLUTIL utility to identify each external disk drive separately. Your system may arrive with either one or two internal disk drives already preconfigured on your system. If you have one internal disk preconfigured, use 2 in place of n in the following example when adding an external disk drive to your configuration.

If your system has two preconfigured disk drives, use 3 in place of n when configuring the external disk drive. Note that your internal disks always count as the first disk drive and second disk drive, if the second one exists.

       volutil: NEWVOL VNAME=MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET:MEMBERn LDEV=n Return

For example, to add an external disk drive to your system configuration, where there is one internal disk preconfigured, type the following:

       volutil: NEWVOL VNAME=MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET:MEMBER2 LDEV=2 Return

  4. The system displays a screen similar to the following each time that you initialize an external disk drive. Confirm that you want to initialize each new member volume by responding to the prompt as shown:

      volutil:NEWVOL VNAME=MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET:MEMBER2 LDEV=2

      *Verify:Initialize new member volume

      MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET on ldev 2 [Y/N]?y

Note:New member volume has been initialized on ldev2.

Using these procedure you can initialize up to three external disk drives, if one internal disk drive is preconfigured on your system. You can configure two external disk drives if your system is preconfigured with 2 internal disk drives.

  5. To return to the system prompt (:). At the volutil: prompt, type:

      volutil: EXIT Return

    The system prompt should reappear.
