The EVLOG formatter provides a user interface that is similar to the NMDUMP interface with options set in the same manner as for NMDUMP. EVLOG also provides some filtering capability, including filtering on host-based time. See the descriptions of formatting options later in this chapter.

NOTE: This formatter is only intended to be used on log files with X.25 and PAD events. Use the NMDUMP formatter to format other types of logging.

EVLOG Limitations

You should be aware of the following limitations when using the EVLOG formatter:

  • EVLOG does not perform error checking when it opens the message catalog (EVCAT).

  • EVLOG does not format the PC event time.

  • EVCAT messages for events other than X.25 or PAD events may be truncated or unreadable.

  • The first 14 characters of EVCAT messages are shown for primary events.

  • The first 25 characters of EVCAT messages are shown for secondary events.

  • The first six characters of the DTC name are shown; domain/org are not shown.

  • The first 25 characters of hostname (events 3604/3605) are shown.

  • The first 25 characters of diagnostic text (event 3685) are shown.

  • The first 25 characters of PcEvent info text are shown.
