ALLBASE/NET clients and servers must be connected by a LAN or a WAN (via X.25). The LAN or WAN provides all the necessary hardware and link software to allow communication between machines.

NS (Network Services) and ARPA services (Advanced Research Projects Agency) are the software interfaces that enable communication between machines on the same network using the TCP/IP protocol.

NOTE: The HP-UX 10.0 release does not support NS.

If you are using NS, the following products must be installed on your HP 3000 Series 900 system before you install ALLBASE/NET:

  • NS3000/XL Network Services

  • ThinLAN 3000/XL Link

  • or

  • DTC/X.25 XL Network Link

NOTE: If you are connecting to an HP 9000 system, refer to "Hardware and Software Requirements" in the "Getting Started" chapter of the HP 9000 Computer Systems ALLBASE/NET User's Guide.
