With the introduction of version C.55.00 of MPEa/iX, there are two ways to define input and output devices on a system: using SYSGEN's I/O Configurator or using the IOCONFIG utility. Both methods provide information about the input and output devices configured on a system and let you make changes to the configuration as necessary. The key difference is that using IOCONFIG changes the configuration while the system remains online, whereas to activate configuration changes made with SYSGEN, you must issue a separate command (DOIONOW) after making the changes, or reboot the system with the START NORECOVERY option, or generate a new System Load Tape to update this (or another) system.

This chapter explains the following topics:

  • using the SYSGEN I/O Configurator to get current configuration information, change the configuration, and define new I/O devices on your system.

  • using the command file DOIONOW to immediately implement configuration changes you make using SYSGEN's I/O Configurator.

  • using the IOCONFIG utility to view and change the IO configuration while the system remains online.
