| fname | The fname parameter specifies the actual file designator. $NULL is not a valid input file. The order in which the input files are specified is important in that records with equal keys are positioned according to the order of the files in which they appear. Notice that parentheses are not used with >INPUT command in MERGE/XL. |

Unlike the SORT/XL >INPUT command,
the input files are not enclosed in parentheses. The order in which the files are specified is important only in that the records with equal keys are ordered according to the order of the files in which they appear.
