Whenever you load and adjust the paper, the page printer must be in HALT mode with the front door closed and the power on.

To prepare the paper for loading

Remove the paper from its container before placing it on the paper tray.

If you find this awkward, the container can be placed on the tray and cut away, leaving the paper.

To load and adjust paper for a page printer

  1. Position the paper on the tray beneath the splice table. The paper should be positioned directly under the table and parallel to the input tractors.

    [fig307]
  2. Fold approximately two feet of paper. Ensure that the leading edge of the paper retains the original folding pattern.

    [fig308]
  3. Thread paper around the paper out sensor assembly and place the leading edge on the splice table.

    [fig309]

The folded sheets will be used later in threading paper through the preheater.

  4. Open the input paper tractors. Note that the front tractor is fixed, while the rear tractor is adjustable.

    [fig310]
  5. Align the leading edge of the paper and close the front tractor.

    [fig311]

Ensure that the leading paper tractor hole is aligned with the leading pin on the input tractor. Adjust the rear tractor to match the paper width.

  6. Clamp and close the rear tractor.

    [fig312]
  7. Open the printer top cover, exposing the paper path and the preheater areas.

    [fig313]
  8. Open the paper output door. The door latch is located underneath the front left-hand corner of the printer.

To thread the paper

  1. Press and hold the THREAD PAPER key on the paper control panel until the paper emerges.

    [fig315]
  2. Using one hand, grasp the edge of the paper. Apply slight tension to the paper while pressing the PAPER FORWARD key.

    [fig316]
  3. Adjust the output tractors to the paper width.

    [fig317]

The right tractor is fixed and cannot be adjusted.

  4. Move the left tractor by rotating the tractor clamp release knob.

    [fig318]

If the adjustment knob is located to the rear of the tractor and is difficult to grasp, manually rotate the tractor until the adjustment knob is in front.

  5. Set the Paper Length Adjustment selector, located below the paper control panel, to correspond to the page length of the paper.

    [fig319]
  6. Use the PAPER FORWARD key to move the paper through the output tractors into the stacker.

    [fig320]
  7. Close the paper output door. Make sure the latch is secure.

  8. Use either the EJECT ALL key or the PRINT SINGLE key, if data is available on your printer.

To align the paper

Once the paper is loaded, align the page perforations to the corresponding page length.

  1. Use the PAPER FORWARD key to move paper perforations to the correct page length alignment mark.

    [fig322]

The PAPER FORWARD key is the only key that may be used since it moves the paper in one-half inch increments. The PAPER REVERSE key cannot be used for this alignment.

  2. Press the RUN key to start printing.
