Turns on a trace for a particular VC on an X.25 card.

Security level: 2.

Syntax

TRACEON dtcnum,cardnum,traceoption

Parameters

dtcnum

Number of the DTC that contains the DTC/X.25 Network Access card (SNP). This is the number TermDSM associates with this DTC.

cardnum

Number of the SNP card within the DTC. The cards are numbered from zero beginning at the bottom of the DTC. (Note that SNP cards may not be mounted in slot 0 or 1 for DTC 16, and slot 0 for DTC 48.)

traceoption

The trace option allows you to specify the type of information that you want included in the trace. The options are 1, to trace VC information; 2, to trace level 2 information; or 3, to trace level 3 information. The trace options are described separately on the following pages. Only one trace can be active at a time.

Trace Option 1

Use trace option 1 to trace information about a specific VC. When this trace option is entered, the following prompt is printed on the terminal:

     (VC number)
     vc #
     (carriage return to exit) ?

Enter the number of the virtual circuit for which you want the trace recorded. There can be up to 256 VCs on a DTC48 or DTC 72MX and up to 32 VCs on a DTC16.

You will then see the following prompt at the terminal:

(filter) HDr Header only) FUll (Full Packet) (carriage return to exit) ?

Enter HDr if you want only header information (including TCP/IP headers) included in the trace.

Enter FUll if you want full packet information included in the trace.

You will then be prompted to enter a trace file name, as follows:

     (Filename)
Please enter a filename for the X.25 trace or press carriage
return to use the default (TRACE.PUB.SYS). Trace file will be
kept in PUB.SYS. (carriage return to accept default) ?

Trace Option 2

Use trace option 2 to trace level 2 information for the specified SNP card. When this trace option is entered, the following prompt is printed on the terminal:

(filter) HDr (Header only) FUll (Full Packet) (carriage return to exit) ?

Enter HDr if you want only header information (including TCP/IP headers) included in the trace.

Enter FUll if you want full packet information included in the trace.

You will then be prompted to enter a trace file name, as follows:

(Filename)
Please enter a filename for the X.25 trace or press carriage
return to use the default (TRACE.PUB.SYS). Trace file will be
kept in PUB.SYS. (carriage return to accept default) ?

Trace Option 3

Use trace option 3 to trace level 3 information for the specified SNP card. When this trace option is entered, the following prompt is printed on the terminal:

(VC type for level 3) PAd PAD VCs) SYs (System-to-System VCs) All (PAD and System-to-System VCs) (carriage return to exit) ?

Enter PAd to trace PAD VCs only, enter SYs to trace system-to-system VCs only, enter All to trace both PAD and system-to-system VCs.

You will then be asked to enter the link name, as follows:

(linkname) Please enter the linkname for level 3 trace (carriage return to exit) ?

Enter the link name of the X.25 link as configured in NMMGR. The link name may be up to eight (8) ASCII characters.

You will then see the following prompt at the terminal:

(filter) HDr (Header only) FUll (Full Packet) (carriage return to exit) ?

Enter HDr if you want only header information (including TCP/IP headers) included in the trace.

Enter FUll if you want full packet information included in the trace.

You will then be prompted to enter a trace file name, as follows:

(Filename) Please enter a filename for the X.25 trace or press carriage
return to use the default (TRACE.PUB.SYS). Trace file will
be kept in PUB.SYS. (carriage return to accept default) ?
