Overview

As of the MPE/iX 6.0 Release, the performance tool, HP GlancePlus/XL, has been renamed HP GlancePlus/iX. With version HPB1787B.09.06, the program file has been changed from GLANCEXL.PUB.SYS to GLANCEIX.PUB.SYS. For most users, these changes should have no impact, as the GLANCE.PUB.SYS command execute file has been changed to run the new program name. Users can continue to employ the GLANCE command to access the tool as before. If users have used the GLANCEXL program name in UDCs, they will need to either change the references, use a logon file equate, or copy the GLANCEIX program to GLANCEXL.

Several areas in Glance were changed to be more aware of the Hierarchical File System (HFS or POSIX) naming convention. Most noticeably, the Use command prompt now reflects the alternative file names allowed (MPE or HFS). Also, the File display portion of the Process Display screen has been rearranged to display more of the longer HFS file names before truncation occurs. Other changes to Glance include the display of the duration of the last data collection interval, some general performance optimizations, and changes necessary for MPE/iX 6.0 internal structural modifications.

Trial Program

The Customer Trial Demonstration capability will continue to be available and to provide a one-time-only trial period for the use of the Glance performance tool. Thus, all MPE systems come with a GLANCEIX program that may be activated for the trial use. The GLREADME.PUB.SYS file describes how to activate the trial period. The trial software no longer resides in a separate group as in previous releases. The trial program now resides at the same location as the purchased product so that two differing versions of the program may not be present on the system at the same time. Customers who have purchased Glance will automatically have the trial version overlaid by the full capability product. Those customers who have not purchased Glance should leave the product files in PUB.SYS for use by the HP Response Center is resolving problem calls.

The features described above are also available as patch GLAKX69 for MPE/iX 5.0 and 5.5 but without the program renaming. Note that there are unique versions of the Glance program for each operating system version and they may only be utilized on the appropriate platform.
