When updating your services from a previous version of HP-UX to HP-UX release 10.0, take the following steps to take advantage of VT3K/9000 enhancements:

  • Network Administrators--Ensure that:

    • the VTA service is running on the HP 3000. Ensure that the HP 3000 is configured in either the domain name server or /etc/hosts file.

    • Notes: Because BSD Socket calls are used instead of NetIPC, there are two major impacts: IP addresses may now be used in addition to hostnames, and the Domain Name Server may also be used on Ethernet to look up. If Ethernet is used on an HP 3000, and that HP 3000 is properly configured in a Domain Name Server or /etc/hosts file, you can turn off IEEE 802.3 (and PROBE) if you are not using it for other purposes. Refer to the NS3000/iX NMMGR Screens manual for more details.

  • End Users--Change any scripts that invoke vt3k to:

    • use the domain name for the HP 3000 (if it is different from the NS name).

    • remove the -t option if you will be running block mode applications. As of HP-UX 10.0, the vt3k -t option works differently than on previous releases. To avoid problems, enable typeahaead only for MPE/iX applications that specifically support typeahead. If you encounter application problems, especially with block mode or function keys, try disabling typeahead to see if the problems go away. Typeahead may be disabled by issuing a SETVAR HPTYPEAHEAD FALSE command or by invoking vt3k without the -t option. See the “Typeahead Enhancements” section for more details.
