NAMEenv — set environment for command execution DESCRIPTIONenv obtains the current environment, modifies it according to its arguments, then executes the command with the modified environment. Arguments of the form name=value are merged into the inherited environment before the command is executed. The -i option causes the inherited environment to be ignored completely so that the command is executed with exactly the environment specified by the arguments. The - option is obsolete and has the same effect as the -i option. If no command is specified, the resulting environment is printed, one name-value pair per line. RETURN VALUEIf command is invoked, the exit status of env is the exit status of command; otherwise, env exits with one of the following values:
EXTERNAL INFLUENCESEnvironment VariablesLC_MESSAGES determines the language in which messages are displayed. If LC_MESSAGES is not specified in the environment or is set to the empty string, the value of LANG is used as a default for each unspecified or empty variable. If LANG is not specified or is set to the empty string, a default of "C" (see lang(5)) is used instead of LANG. If any internationalization variable contains an invalid setting, env behaves as if all internationalization variables are set to "C". See environ(5). |
