Support of HP7979/HP7980 on MPE XL

HP7979/HP7980 SUPPORT ON MPE XL
XL Release 1.1 (A.10.00) includes support for the HP7979 and HP7980 tape
drives.
Device Features
The HP7979 tape drive is a 1600 bpi front loading 1/2 inch tape drive.
The HP7980 tape drive is a 1600/6250 bpi front loading 1/2 inch tape
drive. The physical size of the HP7979/HP7980 devices is smaller than
previous tape devices and will fit into a standard 19-inch cabinet. To
save floor space two tape drives can be mounted in the same cabinet.
Both drives have a streaming speed of 125 ips, which is considerably
faster than the 7978B which has a maximum speed of 75 ips.
Software Features
Support for the HP7979 and HP7980 tape drives on XL Release 1.1 (A.10.00)
include the following:
* Sherlock diagnostics were enhanced for use with the HP7979 and HP7980
tape drives.
* Product numbers for the HP7979 and HP7980 are supported by SYSGEN.
* Enhanced powerfail support for the HP7979 and HP7980. If the HP7979
or HP7980 is online and a device powerfail occurs the device will
reload the tape and go back online. Depending on the tape
application program being used, the tape drive may go back offline
due to rewind/unload commands being issued or the program may
terminate as part of the program's device powerfail recovery.
