Chapter 2 SYSTEM INFORMATION
Introducing Measurement Interface - Architected Interfaces
by Beth Eikenbary--Commercial Systems Division
Architected Interfaces (AIF) are a series of services that provide
interface products for use by software suppliers. The AIF products
provide easy high-performance access, manipulation of system processes
and information.
The Architected Interface Facility: Measurement Interface (HP36392A)
represents the second product in this series. The first product, AIF:
OS, provides access to general operating system data definitions and
functionality. This second product, AIF: MI, provides access to the
system performance information collected by the MPE XL measurement
interface. These performance information AIFs are the only HP authorized
access of the MPE XL Measurement Interface.
In general, Architected Interfaces provide a software layer between
non-OS software and internals, which provides controlled access to MPE XL
internal data and functionality. This software layer, executing at User
Privilege Mode, provides a window into MPE XL internal operations. This
window does not supply a direct view of these internals, but rather
abstracts the operating system structure based upon customer usage. For
example, a management utility needs to know everything about a specific
session, but does not need to know the format of the structures content.
This abstraction gives users independence from MPE XL details and
implementation changes.
The interfaces are available on MPE XL Releases 2.1 and later. It is
necessary to have either the Pascal or C compilers, since these are the
only programming languages supported by the Architected Interface
Facility products.
