HP Business Report Writer/XL (HP BRW/XL) by Peter Lucey--Commercial Systems Boeblingen HP BRW/XL, a powerful and popular report writer from HP, is available in native mode on MPE XL. The HP BRW/XL version number is A.00.00. You can upgrade existing HP BRW/V reports to HP BRW/XL so that they run in native mode. When you buy HP BRW/XL, you will also receive HP BRW/V. You can therefore also run existing HP BRW/V reports in compatibility mode on MPE XL systems, and develop reports on MPE XL systems that will run on MPE V systems (with a MIT version of G.03.01 or later). To allow the operation of both HP BRW/V and HP BRW/XL on MPE XL systems, names of all Business Report Writer program and data files for HP BRW/V are different from the names of the files for HP BRW/XL, (except for the program REMPTY.PUB.SYS). Report specification files, dictionary output files, intermediate report files, and print files are interchangeable between HP BRW/V and HP BRW/XL. Report execution files and dictionary files are not interchangeable between HP BRW/V and HP BRW/XL. Report job files and standard job files are interchangeable, however you must alter all BRW program filenames that they contain. HP BRW/XL has the same user interface and features as HP BRW/V, except BRW/XL does not automatically recompile reports, and that HP BRW/XL supports both HP Real numbers and IEEE Real numbers. TRANSFERRING REPORTS BETWEEN HP BRW/V AND HP BRW/XL BRW can do the following: * Transfer reports from MPE V to MPE XL in Native Mode. * Transfer reports from MPE V to MPE XL in Compatability Mode. * Transfer reports from MPE XL to MPE V. Each of these processes is fully described in Appendix F of the HP BRW/XL Reference Manual (P/N 35360-60002). HP BRW/XL TUTORIAL A tutorial for HP BRW/XL is now available. This tutorial will be supplied in book form; however, it uses files which are shipped with HP BRW/XL version A.00.00. The tutorial files are comprised of a database, BRWDIC file, and example solutions.
